Across the Universe

Across the Universe - Sailing Boat & Stars at Sunset - Universe texture filter - Stradbroke Island

I recently purchased Wood Camera on iTunes - A simple and easy to use photo editing app, which I have well and truly got my $3 worth out of.

One of my favourite features of the app, is a selection 'textures' that you can apply to your photos. For example, there's a texture that makes your photo look more like a painting, or you can add fading, or scratches, or burns ...Adding a little 'dimension' to the photo and creating something just a little 'different'.

There was one particular texture I had been hanging out to use called 'Universe', but I couldn't find a photo suitable.
Then I stumbled across this photo, which I had taken at Stradbroke Island (off the Queensland coast) of an old fishing boat.

After a little time spent playing with the colour, lighting and contrast, I was able to apply the 'Universe' texture successfully, creating the finished image shown above.

Pretty impressed with end result, if I do say so myself.

I'm pretty impressed by the image quality too - Considering the fact that I performed the entire editing process on my iphone.

It probably wouldn't hack being enlarged much further than it already is, but I'm just stoked it made it this far!

I have been a bit slack on the photo front of late, choosing instead to update and edit some of my already existing photos.
I've been enjoying experimenting with filters and textures, and uploading them to my Instagram gallery.

Generally I try to keep my photo editing to the bare minimum; I don't want to become one of those photographers who ends up dependent on their editing - I think it would be way too easy to develop lazy habits.
By restricting my photo editing, I'm forced to rely solely on my technique - Which, in turn, will hopefully aid me to better myself as a photographer.

I believe that no amount of editing can ever amount to that of a well executed photo.

Accidental 'Pop Art'

I recently had an 'organised' moment, wherein I decided to go through all my old photo cards, and just check if there was any files left on them, and clear them, ready for future use.

Previously I had had trouble with one of the cards; Told that the card was empty, even though I'd recently used it in my camera. I had just considered the photos lost.
However, after checking the card on the PC via a multi card reader (previously I had used my Mac), I discovered that some of the photos were recoverable - Although, I'm quite sure they didn't look like this when I originally took them!

The above is a selection of the images, grouped together based on their bright colouring - Just a sample of the photo files retrieved from the damaged card.

It has been suggested that maybe the card was subjected to too much heat. ...Whatever the reason, I'm now in possession of some rather funky looking images - Which I have come to grow rather fond of, and felt were too cool not to share.

I think they have a real '60s Pop Art' feel.

...Quite sure I could have never produced anything this cool if it was intentional...

Lavender & Disco

Enhanced photos

Lavender: Photo taken at Peppers Cottage, Burra, on a cold foggy morning, as the sun was just touching on the highest of the Lavender stems.
Enhancement: This photo only needed a small amount of adjustment to reach it's potential; I slightly tipped the colour scale towards more blue and magenta, and I added a bit of enhancement to the highlights and saturation.
The result: Gorgeous, soft purple and aqua hues - Looking almost as though it has been painted; Maybe even a bit 'Monet'? It's definitely my new favourite.

DiscoBall:Photo taken at my partners Fathers retro themed 50th. The disco ball hung above a traditional, 'black & white' (faux), tiled dance floor, as lasers danced and mirrored around the party.
Enhancement: The original photo was a little dull for my liking, so I threw the colour scale completely out of balance in favour of magenta and blue, which in contrast, highlighted the lime green lasers. I also gave a major boost to the highlights and colour saturation, and upped the contrast.
The result: A bright, metallic, glittering ball, that still looks as though it's spinning, beaming a rainbow of colours.

Afterthought: I'm really kind of loving the name 'Lavender & Disco'!
Could be a good name for a label...

Most of these photos originals have been posted previously on my blog - That is because I'm using my Mac Book and I only have so many of my photo's saved on here (the rest are on the PC).
